The Challenge
Developing the form factor, electronics and concept digital user interface for a surgical aid used by orthopaedic surgeons during total hip replacement surgery.
Our Approach
Cambridge University have developed a force sensing device utilising a novel sensor technology which allows for measurements within the complex geometry of the hip joint. Their product aims to provide feedback during an otherwise entirely experience and skill-based aspect of a hip replacement procedure.
The Result
We were able to develop custom electronics in a compact form factor which allowed for measurement from the novel sensors before transferring data over Bluetooth. We were also able to transfer the sensor concept to a standard manufacturing process suitable for mass manufacture, reducing some of the key risks with the client’s technology. We also developed the product’s user experience, creating a concept user interface to gather feedback from orthopaedic surgeons.
